As the end of the school year gets closer, many parents find themselves wondering how to entertain the kids (and maybe themselves) even for an afternoon. Try out this itinerary for an easy and fun afternoon with kids in Provo!

  • Pack a picnic lunch– This can be a fun start to the day and a good way to get kids involved in the plans. To make it extra fun, try using cookie cutters to cut sandwiches, fruits, or even veggies into exciting shapes! If you need ideas for picnic foods, here are some of our favorites:
    • Sandwiches (classic)- ham and cheese, pb&j, and pb&marshmallow fluff are crowd favorites around here
    • Pinwheels- grab a tortilla, a spreadable topping (cheese, peanut butter, nutella, etc), and your favorite fillings. Roll them up and cut them into bit size pieces for easy finger foods
    • Fruit skewers- let kids assemble their own skewers with their favorite fruits. If you want to make it extra special, throw some mini marshmallows on the skewers too!
    • Veggie and dip- you can’t go wrong with a classic like this. Grab your favorite veggies and cut them into your preferred shapes, and don’t forget the dip! Ranch is always good, but my personal favorite is hummus
    • Snacky foods- things like trail mix, small crackers, string cheese, etc
  • Head down Center street towards Utah Lake State Park, and stop at the nation’s largest petroliana collection, Sparks Museum. At just $5 per person, this fun walking museum is an affordable time machine. Take a look at the vintage gas pumps, signs, cars, and see how many Sinclair dinos you can spot!
  • After you finish at the museum, head down to Utah Lake State Park and check out their new playground. It just opened a few weeks ago, and is great for kids of all ages! Our favorite is the pirate ship, what’s yours?
  • Finish off the afternoon with an ice cream cone at your favorite shop (this step is optional, but highly recommended). I like Brooker’s Founding Flavors, and it holds with the “time machine” theme!

No matter what you choose to do, Utah county is packed with fun and affordable activities to keep your family entertained all summer long!
